Nike x Fats
The story behind this breeding...
A young Fats at the 2021 National.
In 2021, I attended the AMCA National and Regional Specialties in Gettysburg, PA. The grooming space behind us had these two boys. My goodness... these boys! Brothers, I'd later learn, bred by Joe and Robin Hug (Adair'n'Hug) and named "Fats" and "Ratchet." They were only two years old - mere adolescents - but absolute head-turners. All week, I stared at these boys - impressed, entranced, intrigued. To my extreme delight, the agouti brother, Fats, even went on to win Best of Opposite at the National Specialty that year.

After the National, I delved into Adair'n'Hug and Frostfield pedigrees trying to understand the parts that had come together to make this dazzling whole. I talked with Joe and Robin, sifted through binders of their personal pictures, and learned how they had integrated these old pedigrees into their lines. In spring 2022, I bred my Psyche to Fats, but to my utter heartbreak, it did not take. As I regrouped, I wondered whether there might be a different path to bringing this amazing boy (and others I'd discovered through the course of my research) into my program.

In the fall of 2022, I bred Vesta to Sherlock, Fat's grandfather, who was known for producing stellar structure as well as a 'type' that perfectly matched hers. When my keeper from that litter, Nike, passed all her health checks, the next step was a no-brainer. THIS was my moment to shoot for my Fats baby! The pedigrees align beautifully, their strengths and weaknesses are a perfect complement, and their temperaments are both gushy, marshmallow-y sweet.
