Vesta is my 3-year-old female out of Karin Fischer's Clara (Anua's Absolut Clara-T) to Joyce Osborn's Astro (Kaviak's Big Bang Theory).
Vesta is a lively girl, usually an opportunist, oftentimes a schemer, and always a TOTAL cuddle. She will sprawl in my lap for hours. This girl craves love (and food) like no dog I've ever owned. Her tail wags all the time! In June 2017, Vesta earned her first AKC Best of Breed (over a special) at Key City, then a week later earned her first major at Fargo. In July 2017, I decided to explore UKC showing to practice my handling skills. Vesta finished her UKC championship in one weekend. She took Best of Breed four out of five shows, and took a Group 2, 3, and 4 (twice). Our showing career went on hiatus for several months as I allowed Vesta to mature and explored mushing. In May 2018, she returned to the show ring at St. Peter. Vesta won two majors with two Best of Winners/Best of Opposite Sex wins for 6 points total! We showed in the Owner-Handler ring, and I was stunned stupid when we somehow got a Group 1 - even more so when we won Reserve Best in Show! We were on a roll! Next up was Duluth’s 4-day show in July 2018. Vesta decided the summer heat had become too much. She started dropping coat like it was going out of fashion! Crushed, I avoided touching her and promised myself that I would keep a good sense of humor. And then something crazy happened: Vesta won the major the first day! This finished her championship - my first champion ever! As each successive day passed, her coat grew more meager, white tufts fell into the judges’ hands, and I despaired of her increasingly unattractive patches. Apparently, the judges did not mind, because she continued to rack up points, this time towards her grand championship. I had no plans to special her after championship, but we’ve got a good start if I ever decide to tackle such a thing. Vesta is a joy to train (probably because she is so food-oriented)! In October 2017, she earned her first two Rally Novice legs at the Alaskan Malamute Nationals in Ohio with a respectable 98 and 100. In December, she finished her RN title with a 99 at the Skokie Valley Show. In February 2018, she earned her Canine Good Citizen and Novice Trick Dog Title in a single afternoon. birth: 3/25/16 OFA - Eyes: Normal - AM-EYE614/21F-VPI (tested 1/5/19) OFA - Elbows: Normal OFA - Hips: Passed Cardiac: Normal (tested 1/5/19) Thyroid: Normal PN: Clear by parentage DNA Databank: AM-DNA-709/B Vesta's OFA Clearances |
